September Opt Out Deadline
Deadline for Full Time Students to opt out of the medical and dental plan is Friday, September 30th, 2011 at 4:00pm.
UPEI Student Health and Dental Plan
As a full-time student at UPEI, you are automatically enrolled in the Student Health and Dental Plan. You are automatically registered when you sign up for your classes. The fee for the plan is automatically charged to your account along with your tuition costs. The UPEI Board of Governors by-laws states that all full time students must have medical coverage above and beyond provincial Medicare.
Effective Dates
Coverage - September 1st through to August 31st of each academic year.
Opting Out
For student who provide proof that they already have comparable coverage (through parents, spouse or employer) may opt out of the plan. Students can opt out online at the following link Click Here or at the Student Union office on 2nd floor South end, Student Centre in order to be eligible for a refund.
The deadline to opt out of the plan is September 30th, 2011 at 4:00pm* No Exceptions *
What is acceptable proof - the insurance card itself, or a photocopy of the card, or claim form with insurance information on the form, or a letter from the insurance company.
Adding Dependants
Students have the option to add dependants for an additional fee. To do so you must fill out a form available online or at the Student Union office. The deadline to add dependants is September 30th, 2011.
Avoiding the Black Out Period
During the month of September and the 1st week of October there is a block out period while students opt-out of the plan. At the beginning of each enrolment period your pay direct card does not work until the eligibility list of who’s covered is completed. We have worked with the Administrator to allow all eligible members to activate their card and avoid this Blackout Period. With the exception of Murphy’s Pharmacies who will honor the system for the month of January for students. To avoid the blackout period clink on the following link Click Here.
UPEI Health Centre
The UPEI Health Centre is available for the use of all UPEI Students. Located on the 2nd Floor North, Murphy Student Centre, the Health Centre offers a number of services to UPEI students. Contact the Health Centre to inquire about hours at (902) 566-0616.
